The reason for what many broadband customers is deprived of YouTube
Broadband and mobile together currently use 6 terabytes of bandwidth in Bangladesh. About 50 percent of this bandwidth is carried through the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) DPI. Of this capacity, approximately 1.8 terabytes of mobile and 1.2 terabytes of bandwidth are carried over broadband Internet transmission lines. The rest is carried out in the bypass system. This bandwidth is managed by the concerned IIG institutions.
According to sources, the government opened Google's cache server on Wednesday in the afternoon. This instruction was given to IIGs in a message from BTRC. In that instruction, it was said to close the cache servers of Facebook, TikTok, Akamai and Bison and open all the cache servers of Google. Following the instructions, everyone runs Google Cache Server but the IIG companies fall in trouble for transferring bandwidth through DPI.
As Department of Telecommunication shut down YouTube.com for not getting any written instructions from BTRC. Regarding this and contacting DoT by mail and phone from time to time, there was no result. Even 72 hours after the government opened it, they failed to launch YouTube. IIG companies such as Fiber@Home, Pyrex, Summit, Windstream and Xmax connected to DPI have come under fire from customers by following the government guidelines.
The comments of DoT's acting director general and IIAB's president were not available.
It has been found that even after lifting the ban, their customers are not able to provide YouTube.com services from the ISPs. They are not able to offer this opportunity to the customer completely due to the barrier of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). However, due to lack of capacity of DPI, it is not possible to completely control more than 60 percent of the bandwidth that is running through competitor IIG by bypassing it. Even if the government shuts it down, many services are running secretly. Technical engineers also think that it is not possible to stop these completely technically. But despite the instructions of the Minister of State Zunaid Ahmed Palak and the message of BTRC, the bandwidth of YouTube transmitted from DoT is blocked.
However, if you want to know how WhatsApp messages are being exchanged, technical expert Suman Ahmed Sabir said, it is working with the capabilities of our engineers. However, since Facebook's cache server is closed, calls or pictures or videos can’t be shared.
